Mystery chimney fire

West Kelowna fire crews dealt with a stubborn chimney fire Thursday.

They were called to a residence in the 2700 block of Thacker Drive at around 6 p.m.

The lone occupant left the house when the smoke detector went off.

The fire department says they know what caused the fire, but are not sure why it happened.

“The fire itself was stubborn in the sense that it was in the wall and it was a gas fireplace,” says Captain Troy Russell. “A majority of our chimney fires are from wood combustible fireplaces.”

The home sustained extensive smoke damage.
