Thursday, the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) tracked the 41-year-old to a motel room in Rouyn-Noranda, seven hours north of Montreal.
Friday, tips came in to say he had been spotted in Maniwaki, about an hour and a half north of Ottawa, and Napanee, Ont.
Canine units, divers and a helicopter had been deployed in the search.
Police are investigating after the body of the boy’s mother, 41-year-old Véronique Barbe, was found in a residence on Antoine-Seguin Boulevard in Saint-Eustache.
“There would have been a link between both events,” Sgt. Audrey-Anne Bilodeau, a spokesperson for the SQ, told Global News.
Daniel Barbe, Véronique’s brother, told Global News her doctor had advised her four months earlier that she should separate from Fredette as he had been showing “violent tendencies and acting increasingly bizarre.”

Police say his white Ford truck was found in Lachute early Friday morning, leading to a manhunt in the area.
Earlier in the day, Henri Provencher, grandfather of Cedrika Provencher, who went missing in 2007, put out a public call for Fredette to return the boy in a heartfelt message on Facebook.
“Message to Ugo, knowing you, I appeal to your father’s heart,” the post reads.
“Do not commit the irreparable, return your child to the police without further delay.”
