A handful of people were treated to a Willy Wonka experience in Belleville Thursday.
Five people who found a golden ticket in a chocolate bar this summer were given a tour of Belleville chocolate factory, Donini.
“We saw this as an opportunity to be able to give people a glimpse into our world here,” said Kimberly Bushell, the operations director of Donini. “How we make chocolate, how we bring forward the great product that we offer and also partner with our local companies as well and give them a little recognition.”
Just like in the movies, the lucky ones that took the tour got a lesson in chocolate making 101.
They heard about the history of the company, how products were made, what products are made and who makes them.
There was no mention of Oompa-Loompas.
And just like in the movie, there was one lucky winner at the end of the tour, but they didn’t get the keys to the chocolate factory, located on Bell Boulevard in Belleville. Instead, the Christiansen family of Trenton took home a grand prize of $500 along with a getaway to Prince Edward County.
Erik Christiansen says his son Andrew received his winning ticket in a chocolate bar he received at a fishing derby for kids in Trenton back in July.
The family agrees it was a sweet way to wrap up a golden ticket experience.
