‘No airbags, we die like real men’: driver pulled over for excessive speeding

Police were shocked to see this sticker on a car when they pulled it over in West Vancouver. West Vancouver Police handout

The message about dangerous driving and excessive speeding apparently didn’t get through to one driver in West Vancouver.

Police tweeted out a photo overnight showing a sticker on the vehicle they pulled over, reading No airbags, we die like real men.

Officers pulled over the driver on Highway 1 after they say they clocked him going 160 km/h in a 90 km/h zone.

Police say the 18-year-old driver will have his car impounded for the next week. He also received a speeding ticket.

“Nobody really thinks the sticker reflects very thorough thinking,” Const. Jeff Palmer told CKNW. “Airbags and all the safety equipment in your vehicle is there because sad very tragic experiences taught us that those safety devices can make a difference.”

But he says dangerous driving isn’t isolated to any specific demographic.

“It isn’t something that is limited to just young males. We have professionals in their mid-30s all the way up to professionals in their mid-60s that we deal with for excessive speed.”
