Vancouver’s Labour Day weekend weather will be scorching hot : forecast

English Bay in Vancouver. Global News

Metro Vancouver, Victoria, Whistler and surrounding communities should brace themselves for a hot Labour Day weekend that will see temperatures hit the low-30 range in areas away from the coast by Sunday.

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement on Thursday warning of an “unseasonable strong ridge of high pressure” that’s set to build over B.C. throughout the weekend.

The agency said temperatures will hit the low-30s by Sunday for parts of the province that are some distance from the “immediate coast.”

The weather could make for a nice time at the beach but it could also combine with outflow winds, which could help to push wildfire smoke out to the coast.

The hot weather is expected to last until Tuesday at the earliest.

The special weather statement was issued for the following areas:

  • Metro Vancouver
  • Fraser Valley
  • Howe Sound
  • Whistler
  • Sunshine Coast
  • Greater Victoria
  • East Vancouver Island
  • Inland Vancouver Island
  • Southern Gulf Islands

This is what temperatures are expected to look like in various communities throughout the weekend:
