The OPP Criminal Investigations Branch continues to investigate a suspicious death that occurred in Tweed over the weekend.
Police were called at 7:45 a.m. on Saturday, August 14, to a rural property at 382 Kinlin Road, 15 minutes west of Tweed.
The body of a 55-year-old man was discovered, and a 36-year-old man was arrested shortly afterwards.
“We would just like to advise the community that there is no safety concern as a result of the incident we’re investigating,” said Constable Lisa Robson with the Central Hastings OPP.
OPP won’t confirm many details surrounding the death, but note the criminal investigations branch has been called in.
Casey Trudeau, a business owner in the Tweed area, lives just a few short minutes from the scene of the crime.
“Me being a business person in Tweed, you know, we thrive on tourism and we don’t want Tweed to be known as a dangerous place,” Trudeau said.
While not much is known about the suspect in custody, Trudeau said the deceased man went by the name “Dart.”
“Dart was a really innocent guy and I know a lot of people are going to miss him being around,” Trudeau said. “He was quite the character. I think a lot of people are going to remember him for who he was, and our prayers go out to his family.”
Police say they are waiting for autopsy results before releasing more information.
