One person has been rushed to hospital following a boat explosion this morning on Skaha Lake in Penticton.
Witness Mike Waller said he and his family from Alberta were about to board a parasail boat when it exploded after refueling at the Skaha Lake Marina.
“It was like a huge bang. Very loud and sharp. It was over really quickly,” Waller said.
Waller said the co-owner of the boat was aboard the vessel when the explosion happened.
Waller said the other boat owner rushed to the scene and tried to put out the stubborn fire with extinguishers but the canisters ran out.
The local fire department eventually arrived on scene to put out the blaze.
Damage to the boat is extensive.
Waller said the incident has left his family shaken up.
“We were pretty shocked. My daughter was quite upset. She wants to go back home to Calgary.”
