Vancouver’s mayor is downplaying any sort of influence from big developers who make donations to his Vision Vancouver party.

Speaking on The Jon McComb Show on CKNW, Gregor Robertson was asked if he was too closely tied to the development community in terms of campaign donations and if it swayed decisions against city needs.
“Absolutely not. There’s no connection at all there, there’s certainly developers that donate and write significant cheques given it’s the wild west out here. We’ve asked for the nine years that I’ve been in office on an annual basis for the B.C. government to put rules in place to cap donations, to prevent corporate and union donations.”
Earlier this week, city council approved a controversial new 57-storey tower in the West End from WestBank, despite the concerns of local residents.
In the fall, council is expected to vote on an ambitious new ten-year plan to create 72,000 new housing units for residents.
