Time has asked the Trump Organization to remove fake covers of its magazine featuring U.S. President Donald Trump after it was revealed that the phoney issues were on display at several golf clubs owned by the president.
The Washington Post reported Tuesday at least five golf clubs owned by Trump displayed copies of a phoney issue featuring the president on the cover of the magazine.
The bogus cover features Trump, who has lashed out at several media organizations for what calls “fake news,” posing in a suit and tie with his arms folded and headlines that boast his former television show The Apprentice.
“Donald Trump: The ‘Apprentice’ is a television smash!” reads a headline. “TRUMP IS HITTING ON ALL FRONTS…EVEN TV!” reads a headline across the top of the fake magazine cover.
As The Washington Post points out, the fake cover dated March 1, 2009 had never been printed and Trump was never featured on the cover at all that year. The fake cover also features a fake UPC code, the same fake code used as an example in a 2010 tutorial on how to Photoshop to fake a Time magazine cover.
A spokesperson for the magazine confirmed to the newspaper the cover is in fact fake.
“I can confirm that this is not a real TIME cover,” Kerri Chyka, a spokeswoman for Time Inc., wrote in an email to The Washington Post.
The newspaper reported Time had asked the Trump Organization to remove the fake cover from the walls on which it was displayed.
It’s unclear as to who created the fake cover or why.
