Kathy Griffin has been under fire for posting a bloody, severed U.S. President Donald Trump-like head as part of a photo shoot earlier this week.
Amid all the backlash, fellow comedian Jim Carrey defended Griffin on May 31 at the Los Angeles premiere of Carrey’s new Showtime TV series I’m Dying Up Here.
Carrey told ET Wednesday that “I think it is the job of a comedian to cross the line at all times — because that line is not real.”

The actor went on to explain his thinking, which was basically that Trump is doing “crazy things” so comedians are “the last line of defence. And really, the comedians are the last voice of truth in this whole thing. It’s impossible to get away from it.”

Carrey then told ET that he had a strange dream where had been playing golf with Trump and noted that he too has violent thoughts directed at the U.S. president.
“I was standing beside him with a club in my hand, and I was considering my options when I suddenly woke up,” he revealed.
Griffin had originally defended the work calling it art, but then apologized and said she was wrong. She hasn’t posted anything since that Twitter apology.
“I sincerely apologize,” Griffin said. “I’m just now seeing the reaction to these images. I’m a comic. I crossed the line. I moved the line, then I crossed it. I went way too far.”

CNN said on Wednesday it has terminated Griffin’s deal to appear on the network’s annual New Year’s Eve broadcast in the wake of the controversy.
CNN announced the decision in a Twitter post from the network’s public relations department hours after Trump said in his own tweet that Griffin “should be ashamed of herself” for the photos showing her with a replica of a severed, bloodied head resembling his.
Griffin and her lawyer have scheduled a news conference for Friday morning to discuss the fallout from the comedian posing in the photographs.
