One suspect is in custody and the Independent Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is investigating after a man was found dead in Richmond Monday morning.
According to Cpl. Meghan Foster with IHIT, Richmond police were notified just before 6:30 a.m. of a homicide at a business on Viking Way and Cambie Road.
When police arrived on the scene, a man was found dead inside and his injuries were consistent with homicide.
IHIT was called and took over the investigation.
Shortly after the homicide happened, a male suspect was identified and arrested by police, Foster said. The suspect is currently in custody and IHIT is working with Crown Counsel to determine if he will face any homicide-related charges.
The investigation is in the early stages but police said they believe the suspect and victim knew one another and it was not a random act of violence.
The name of the victim will not be released by police because it will not move the investigation forward.
Anyone with information about the homicide is asked to contact IHIT or Crime Stoppers.
