Close to 500 people lined up at The Forks Sunday morning for tickets to one of Winnipeg’s signature winter food events, Raw:almond.
The outdoor food and design venture is organized by deer + almond and designer Joe Kalturnyk. It features a temporary restaurant built right on the frozen waters near The Forks.
There were 2,000 tickets for sale Sunday, and every spot sold.
“We had very smooth sales today, it went really well,” said Kalturnyk.
There are still an additional 500 tickets available. They can be purchased online Monday at 9 a.m.
Tickets add up to a total of $162, which includes the RAW:almond tasting menu, plus additional drinks available for purchase.
“There’s a whole roster of new chefs, returning chefs, local celebrities, national celebrities. As far as the menu, it’s always a secret,” added Kalturnyk.
The restaurant will be set up from Jan. 20 — Feb. 13, and Kalturnyk said he’s confident, the ice will be ready then.
“With the weather being what it is now, we’re confident we’ll have our ice.”
