There might not be any snow on the ground just yet but Toronto police are reminding motorists to think ahead as the winter season nears.
Toronto police, in partnership with the Canadian Automobile Association South Central Ontario (CAASCO), held a winter driving awareness event Wednesday morning in Toronto to educate the public on the unpredictable weather conditions.

“Winter is approaching whether we like it or not. Road conditions can deteriorate rapidly. You need to plan ahead, adjust your speed and be prepared for a sudden change in traffic flows or road conditions. These simple changes to your driving behaviour could prevent a tragedy from occurring and get you home safely to your family,” Superintendent Gord Jones of Traffic Services said in a media release.
Police are reminding drivers to check your vehicle prior to the start of the winter season by inspecting tires, windshield wipers and topping up on washer-fluid.

Some key items to have in your vehicle for emergencies include:
• ice scraper and snow brush
• shovel
• windshield washer fluid
• booster cables
• flashlight and extra batteries
• blankets
• extra clothing and footwear
• first aid kit
• snacks
• smart phone and charger
“The winter weather can be hard on your vehicle. Take the time to make sure you and your car are winter-ready. Test your battery, check your brakes, replace worn windshield wipers and pack an emergency kit before the snow arrives,” Teresa Di Felice, Director Government and Community Relations, CAA SCO, said.
