Pizza and beer delivered to your doorstep: Winnipegers launch first of its kind in Canada

WINNIPEG — Pizza and beer brought right to you with the click of a button thanks to Winnipegers.

The two are things that go hand in hand for some. But, a new concept that’s the first of its kind in Canada has the two working hand in hand right out of Winnipeg.

“Like Batman and Robin, they go great together,” said Angelo Paletta, Co-Owner of Hops Pizza.

Two Italian brothers and a friend they dub an honourary Italian, put their heads together two years ago and decided to take the concept of pizza and beer to a whole new level.

The local entrepreneurs worked with the liquor licensing branch for a few months, figured out what they thought worked well together and mixed the two.

“Over the last two years my partners and I have been thinking of creative ways that we can marry the two together: pizza and beer,” said Paletta.

Then came the birth of the pizza and beer delivery. All run out of a website delivery system. No storefront, but just an online ordering system.

Leaving some Winnipegers skeptical. One asking how delivery people know whether they’re delivering to a minor or not.

A valid concern, and one that owners of Hops Pizza have considered and addressed.

“All of our drivers have the serving it safe course. They all fall within the required liquor legislation. All deliveries are age verified,” said Paletta.

While this delivery service is the first of its kind to hit Canada, the Winnipeg-based company says it has ambitions to hop across the country, and fast.
