WINNIPEG — Winnipeg’s new chief of police, Danny Smyth was sworn in during a public ceremony Tuesday.

Smyth, a born-and-raised Winnipeggers, has been with the police force for 30 years. Before serving in this new role he was the deputy chief of investigative services.

On Friday, the Winnipeg Police Board approved Smyth for the new role of as chief of police. Tuesday was the official public ceremony, and Smyth took his oath of office. Former police chief, Devon Clunis and Mayor Brian Bowman were also in attendance.

Clunis served in the role since November 2012, after spending 25 years with the Winnipeg police. He retired in July of 2016.
