PRESSER: Chief Cst. Bob Rich with Abbotsford Police addresses stabbing that happened Tuesday afternoon at Abbotsford Senior Secondary.
Police describe the suspect in custody as a “young man.” They believe he is not a student at either school and possibly has no connection to either victim.
Parents and students outside Abbotsford Senior Secondary and Abbotsford Middle School were stunned after both schools were placed in lockdown Tuesday afternoon.
“We heard there was a stabbing in the school, then we heard there was a stabbing behind the ravine and they locked the school down,” said Jody, who is a parent trying to reach her son at Abbotsford Secondary.
“We heard they caught the person but we have no answers.”
Abbotsford Senior Secondary will be closed on Wednesday and counselors will be made available beginning at 9 a.m. to students, staff and families in the St. Ann’s Church gym across the street. The church is located at 33333 Mayfair Ave., Abbotsford.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has now taken over the investigation and will handle further updates about the incident.
A video of the incident surfaced online shortly after news broke. The cellphone-footage shows a male struggling with one of the victims on the ground, where he appears to stab her and throw the knife on the floor.
