Vancouver records its 10th murder of the year
WATCH: One person is dead, and two others are in hospital as a result of what's described as 'multiple stabbings' at the Plaza of Nations overnight. And as Jordan Armstrong reports, those in custody are not cooperating with the investigation – Nov 1, 2016

The victim in a fatal stabbing at the Plaza of Nations early Tuesday morning has now been identified as 25-year-old Jia Hong Chen of Burnaby.

One person is still in hospital and another person has since been released.

Vancouver Police confirmed there were multiple stabbings between two groups of people at the plaza and say the incident was not random. The motive for the attack is not known at this time and police are still working on how the victims may be linked.

Shortly after 2 a.m. Tuesday, two groups of men got into an “altercation” near the taxi stand at the Plaza of Nations and a fight broke out, according to police.

When officers arrived, they found two men in their 20s with serious stab wounds. Both men were rushed to hospital in critical condition and one of them, a 25-year-old Burnaby man, died of his injuries. The other, a 23-year-old man, remains in hospital.

A third victim, who initially showed up at Burnaby General Hospital a few hours after the incident in Vancouver and was also suffering from stab wounds, was taken to Royal Columbian Hospital for treatment of serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

A number of suspects and witnesses were taken into custody but Const. Brian Montague with the Vancouver Police say they are not cooperating with them. Everyone has since been released.

Police are hoping cooperative witnesses will come forward to assist them in their investigation.

Anyone with information about this stabbing and murder is asked to call the VPD or Crime Stoppers.
