They say what goes up must come down. And that’s exactly what’s happening at the failed Lucaya condominium project in the north end of Kelowna’s downtown.
After four years of being Kelowna’s tallest eyesore, the massive crane that’s been sitting on what was supposed to be the site of a 21 storey condo high-rise is finally being dismantled.
Crews began the two day dismantling job Tuesday, much to the relief of area business owners.

“Everybody’s been complaining — it’s been a long time.”
The Lucaya property has been the subject of controversy, including complaints about the homeless living in the uncompleted foundation.
A pair of nesting ospreys forced the delay of the crane coming down until now.
The new owners of the Lucaya property are developers out of Richmond. While they won’t reveal what’s planned for the site, they do say it will be suitable for Kelowna and something different on the market.
