Mike Pence’s campaign plane slides off runway in New York

Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, Donald Trump’s running mate, was unharmed after his plane slid off a runway at LaGuardia Airport in New York.

NBC News said the incident happened around 8 p.m. ET.

Emergency crews were on site but a campaign spokesperson told reporters at the scene that no one was injured. He said Pence will be back on the campaign trail Friday as scheduled.

According to a tweet from NBC reporter Vaughn Hillyard the plane was landing when it slid off the runway.

He said Pence himself stood up to ask if everyone was OK.

While leaving the runway, Pence took the time to pose for a picture with firefighters who were called to the scene.

It was raining at the time of the incident. According to the Associated Press, the plane made a rough impact when it landed. The pilot slammed on the brakes and travellers could smell burning rubber.

Passengers, including Pence, were evacuated through the back of the plane.

There were around 60 people on board, according to CBS.

The plane was coming from Fort Dodge, Iowa.
