TORONTO – Police are marking the third anniversary of the death of Christopher Skinner on Thursday by announcing a large reward and renewing their call for the passengers and driver of the car that killed Skinner to come forward.
Detective Sgt. Stacy Gallant, along with members of the Skinner family, held a press conference to recap the events leading to his death in 2009 and make another appeal for tips.
On his way to a hotel after a late night celebrating his sister’s birthday, Skinner was fatally struck by an SUV on Adelaide Street at Victoria Street.
To date, no suspects have been identified.
“We’ve been feeling like hell for the past three years, and no one should walk away from making us feel like that,” Taryn Skinner, Chris’ sister said on Thursday morning.
Police also appealed to witnesses, and those in the car to come forward, suggesting even those who were not driving bore some responsibility.
“More is needed on this investigation. The people responsible are still out there living amongst friends and family, holding this inside,” Gallant said. “The other people in the vehicle, they have certain levels of culpability and that’s to be determined at a later point in time.”
“We will be knocking at your door,” Gallant said.
On Thursday, the third anniversary of Skinner’s death, police and the Skinner family announced new measures to reach out to the public and a significantly increased reward for information that leads to an arrest.
To date, the family has collected over $100,000 to offer as a reward, in addition to the $50,000 reward offered by police, bringing the total reward to roughly $150,000.
Over the last three years, the Skinner family has been fundraising from extended family, friends, and business acquaintances to offer the reward for information, Warren Skinner, Chris’ father said.
“We do not intend to come back here next year,” Warren said.
The family has also set up social media portals to collect and present videos, photos, and information relevant to the investigation.
On Twitter, the family is using the hashtag #findchriskiller to start a discussion on the investigation.
The main social media portal and hub of information is on Facebook where the family has set up a page called “Searching for Chris Skinner’s killer” that will present material from YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook.
Anyone with information is asked to call police at 416-808-7410 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
