Halifax police investigate several hoax bomb threats

Halifax Regional Police and the RCMP responded to another spate of bomb threats early Sunday morning, and again nothing was found.

The threats started just after 2 a.m. AT. Police were first called to Dalhousie University, according to a report from Staff Sgt. Barb Saunders. While on scene, a second bomb was reported at Saint Mary’s University and a third was reported at the Halifax Central Library.

Police received an anonymous, automated phone message about the threat at Dalhousie. Saunders said the second threat was called to Saint Mary’s directly and was also anonymous. The report doesn’t describe how the third threat was reported.

Police say the investigations into the threats are ongoing.

The Halifax district RCMP responded to two additional bomb threats around the same time, according to a press release from Const. Mark Skinner.

Police say a man called just before 1:30 a.m. saying he was in the Cole Harbour Place parking lot with bombs and a hunting rifle.

Police cordoned off the area but nothing suspicious was found.

Shortly after the first call, the RCMP revived an automated call about a bomb at the Halifax Stanfield International Airport. That call came in at 2:17 a.m. Skinner said.

Halifax regional police and police dogs assisted in the search at the airport, but again the Mounties say nothing suspicious was found.

This is the second time in a week that Halifax police have had to respond to fake bomb threats. On Wednesday threats made to two Nova Scotia Community College Campuses forced all of them to be closed across the province.

On the same all day public schools on P.E.I. were evacuated after RCMP received a bomb threat that they later said wasn’t “credible.”
