Man charged in alleged historic sexual assaults at Nova Scotia daycare

File / Global News

RCMP have charged a man following an investigation into multiple sexual assaults that reportedly happened at an unlicensed residential daycare in Kingston, N.S.

Police say they received a complaint Tuesday from an individual saying they were sexually assaulted by a male resident while attending the daycare, located on Old French Road.

Once officers started to investigate the claims, two additional victims came forward to police to report they had also been assaulted while attending the daycare.

Jeffrey Roy Casey, 28, was arrested by police on Wednesday and is now facing a slew of charges including sexual interference, sexual assault and invitation to sexual touching.

RCMP confirm that Casey was not an employee of the daycare when the assaults are said to have taken place, but did live in the residence.

Police are not yet releasing what year the reported assaults took place, but do say they are believed to have occurred “over a number of years.”

“I can appreciate that this would be extremely concerning for parents whose children attended this daycare,” said RCMP Cpl. Jennifer Clarke.

Police say they are concerned there may be other victims and are asking anyone with information to come forward to police.

“We want parents to know that in investigations of this nature, we work closely with the Department of Community Services and have investigators who are specially trained in interviewing children. If you have any concerns, please contact police immediately,” Clarke said.

Casey appeared in Kentville Provincial Court on Thursday and was released on conditions. He is scheduled to appear back in court on Oct. 25.

RCMP say the investigation is ongoing and are not ruling out additional charges.
