The U of A was the fifth highest Canadian university on the list. The ranking comes as the post-secondary institution celebrates a few other honours.

“We just learned that eight faculty members were inducted into the Royal Society of Canada, and our vice-president of research Lorne Babiuk was named 2016 World Agriculture Prize Laureate,” David Turpin, president of the U of A, said. “That all happened in a week where we are celebrating the achievements and honours of 121 faculty, staff and students as part of our annual campus awards ceremony. It is the outstanding work of individuals such as these that has built our international reputation for excellence in teaching and research.

“I am proud to see that excellence reflected in this year’s Times Higher Education World University Rankings, where we have gone up a remarkable 30 spaces.”

The U of C was eighth in Canada behind the University of Waterloo and McMaster University in Hamilton, ON.
