The British Columbia Ministry of Environment is warning hikers in the Akamina-Kishinena Provincial Park near Waterton Lakes National Park after a man was bitten by a bear Sunday.

The Ministry said BC Parks and Parks Canada responded after a man was attacked by what is suspected to be a male grizzly bear. It happened on the Forum Lake trail, accessible from the Cameron Lake area in Waterton Lakes National Park.

The man was able to escape the attack with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

Both BC Parks and Parks Canada declined to a Global News interview request, but sent a statement reminding outdoor enthusiasts of the dangers of heading out on the trails alone. They said to travel in pairs, always carry bear spray and make noise as you are making your way through the wilderness.
