City of Winnipeg announces appointment of new police chief

WINNIPEG – Winnipeg is getting a new police chief.

The city has announced that Devon Clunis (duh-VAHN’ CLOO’-niss)will take over from current Chief Keith McCaskill in December.

Clunis is the superintendent of police and oversees the service’s development support branch.

A news release from the city says Clunis started with Winnipeg police in 1987 and has worked in all areas of the organization, including as chaplain.

It says Clunis is completing university studies at the bachelor and master’s levels, and has overseen development of an in-house leadership program for newly promoted officers.

Clunis is to be sworn in at a ceremony to be held at a later date.
