SAINT JOHN – Police are said to be close to completing their investigation into the suspicious death of a woman at the Saint John Regional Hospital earlier this year.
Officials have released little information about the death of psychiatric patient Serena Perry eight months ago, but news there may be a break in the homicide investigation isn’t much comfort for the 22-year-old’s mother.
Rose Perry says she put her daughter into the hospital to get help nearly one year ago.
“But it did not happen that way,” Perry says. “Every day my heart is broke. I don’t know why they murdered my little girl.”
Perry’s body was discovered in the amphitheatre of New Brunswick’s largest hospital at on Feb. 14.
Saint John Police admit a suspect was picked up.
But, no charges were laid and the suspect was released.
Saint John radio station News 88.9 reported Wednesday that Police Chief Bill Reid said there is one suspect under investigation . News 88.9 also reported the Crown has enough evidence to pursue charges and will decide whether or not to proceed with the case.
Police officials were not available to comment Wednesday if charges are expected to be filed soon.
Perry says she is praying for answers.
“I pray to see if I can get any answers from anybody,” she says. “I don’t know why the boy killed her.”
