WINNIPEG – RCMP confirm the man found unresponsive in the water at Birds Hill Provincial Park on Saturday has died.
RCMP say the 22-year-old was found in the water, unresponsive at 4:45 p.m. and was being transported to a Winnipeg hospital.
Beach safety officers lead the search for the man that began at around 3 p.m.
EMS and East St. Paul water rescue sweept the area with three boats.
Paras Vora was at Birds Hill Provincial Park with his family for a picnic when he heard a call for help at the beach.
He said about 200 people volunteered to make a human chain in the water and help with search efforts for a possible missing person in the water.
Paras said he had to leave before the search was over, but said his friend remained behind and heard someone was found.
