The investigation of a 23-year-old missing person’s case involving a 14-year-old Comox, B.C. girl continues based on a tip from the public.

Lindsey Nicholls went missing on August 2, 1993. According to the RCMP, Nicholls was believed to be on her way to visit friends as part of the B.C. Day long weekend celebration, but she never arrived.

She was last seen walking down Royston Road in the Comox Valley and was never seen again.

Over the past two days, 20 forensically-trained police officers have been searching and excavating on a rural property. The search is now complete and police say the findings can not be shared since the investigation is still ongoing.

Nicholls’s mother, Judy Peterson, said this is not the first excavation done for her daughter.

“As difficult those episodes are our family is still grateful the RCMP is investigating and following up on tips… and that the public is still phoning in and giving information,” she said.

Peterson says she’s hopeful “that one piece of the puzzle will come in soon” that will help in the investigation.

Nicholls is described as 5’3″, 110-115 lbs,  with green eyes and blonde hair with red henna. She had been wearing jeans, a khaki silk tank top, a blue and pink checkered shirt and white runners.

Police say her family has never given up hope that one day they would have some answers about their daughter’s disappearance.

“Somebody out there may know something, even if they believe it is minor or insignificant, that may assist in this investigation,” RCMP Cpl. Tammy Douglas said in a statement.

“We are asking anyone who may have information on Lindsey’s whereabouts or what may have happened to her to please call your local police or Crime Stoppers if you wish to remain anonymous… Next month would be Lindsey’s 38th birthday and her family is still looking for answers.”
