Salomon Abeassis, 80, has been charged with the first-degree murder of his 75-year-old wife.
Police officers were called to a home in Côte Saint-Luc after a fire broke out on Sunday, July 10 at 2 p.m.

“The woman died [Monday] evening from her severe wounds,” said Manuel Couture, a spokesperson with Montreal police.
Police found evidence at the scene, leading them to believe the fire could have been deliberately set.

Investigators considered Abeassis to be an important witness before officially arresting him.
The woman’s death is the ninth homicide in Montreal this year.
