High River RCMP are investigating an unusual crime – the theft of “Catapillar” brand batteries from heavy equipment.
Police said in a news release six batteries, valued at $2,000, were removed from electronic road signs being used to repair a road just west of the town of Blackie, southeast of Calgary.
The theft occurred sometime over the weekend, just days after eight batteries were stolen from a display sign at the same location.
Police said road crews left work Friday and returned to work Monday to find the industrial batteries had been removed.
Cst. John Rotheisler said he’d since received a similar complaint from a site near Aldersyde. RCMP in Strathmore also reported the recent recovery of stolen equipment, including another electronic road sign missing its batteries.
There have been no arrests.
