Canadian sprinter Andre De Grasse will compete in the semifinal in the 200-metre sprint.
De Grasse, 21, finished his preliminary heat Tuesday morning in a time of 20.09 seconds – the best time posted in the preliminary round, although he relaxed and slowed toward the end of the race. Fellow Canadian Aaron Brown also qualified with a time of 20.23 seconds, but Brendan Rodney did not. Both came in third in their respective heats.
The semifinals are scheduled for Wednesday evening.
