Airdrie RCMP are warning against the dangers of drinking and driving after the second instance of a day-time driver blowing over double the legal limit in a month.
Police said a 61-year-old Airdrie driver was the lone occupant in a single-vehicle crash on Highway 566 east of Highway 2 Friday afternoon. He wasn’t injured, but “was showing signs of impairment to the emergency crews and witnesses,” police said.
He was arrested for impaired driving and police said his breath samples registered at three times the legal limit. In Alberta, the legal blood alcohol concentration (BAC) limit is 0.05. In 2012, the province implemented tougher sanctions for drivers with a BAC over 0.08.

“It is very concerning to see this high of breath sample readings occur again in such a short time period during the day,” Cst. Matt Gervais said in a statement. “We encourage all citizens to call 911 when they believe the driver may be impaired by a drug or alcohol.”
