Elizabeth May will spend her summer holiday contemplating her future as leader of the Green Party of Canada, a spokesperson for her office confirmed Wednesday.

May’s period of reflection comes in the wake of a convention vote last weekend in which a majority of Green members opted to support the controversial Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel.

May said she was disappointed by the result and that she would continue to personally oppose the BDS movement, which she dubbed “polarizing, ineffective and unhelpful.”

The Green leader, who took the reins of the party a decade ago in August 2006, was in Montreal on Wednesday, and was unable to grant an interview to Global News.

May is set to begin her scheduled summer holiday on Friday, according to her office, and she will reportedly make a decision about continuing in her role as leader during that time.

Whatever she decides, the spokesperson for May’s office said she will continue to serve in the House of Commons as the Green Party Member of Parliament for Saanich—Gulf Islands.

That means she could continue to provide representation for the party on the recently formed electoral reform committee. May remains the sole Green MP in the House of Commons.
