Rio 2016: Canadian rower Carling Zeeman qualifies for semifinal

RIO DE JANEIRO – Carling Zeeman of Cambridge, Ont., is through to the semifinals in the women’s Olympic single sculls rowing competition.

The 25-year-old finished third in her quarter-final Tuesday with a time of seven minutes 34.52 seconds.

Fie Udby Erichsen of Denmark was first in 7:33.24 while Barbara Hornycroft of Zimbabwe was second in 7:34.38.

Women’s pair Nicole Hare of Calgary and Jennifer Martins of Toronto placed fourth in the repechage and did not advance to the semifinals.

The semis are set for Wednesday at Lagoa Stadium in the heart of Rio.
