More than 3,000 firefighters are still trying to contain massive wildfires in California that have already destroyed nearly 35 homes and killed at least one person.
Soaring temperatures are hindering crew efforts to contain the fires that began last week near Big Sur and in northern Los Angeles County and temperatures are expected to climb heading into the weekend.
The Big Sur blaze was only 10 per cent contained Thursday and has charred more than 100-square kilometres of brush. Fire officials said crews have the nearly 100-square kilometre blaze near Santa Clarita 65 per cent contained.
