Safety Check allows family and loved ones to check in with those in affected areas to let them know they’re safe. The tool allows users to check in as “Safe,” which sends a notification to their friends list.
Facebook activated the feature shortly after news of the shooting at the Olympia Einkaufszentrum shopping center began circulating on social media.
According to Munich Police, the suspect is still at large. Police are encouraging people to stay where they are and seek shelter.
According to a report by AFP, at least one person is dead and 10 others were injured. However, Reuters news agency, citing Germany’s Muencher Abendzeitung, is reporting up 15 people have been killed in the shooting at the mall, which is located next to the Munich Olympic stadium.
