KIRKLAND – Kirkland residents are concerned after multiple coyote sightings in the community.
On Thursday evening, a resident spotted what she thinks was a stray coyote at Ecclestone Park.
Last month, the Town of Kirkland sent out a warning to residents asking them to watch out for a coyote wandering around neighbourhoods in the area.

Saturday night, once again, people took to Facebook to warn others about yet another sighting, this time in Harris Park.
“It’s definitely disturbing and a concern for the pets. You would never want anything to harm your pet so it’s concerning,” said Kirkland resident, Georgia Genovezos.
Over the last few weeks, coyote sightings in Kirkland have been frequent.
Some residents said they’re not surprised coyotes have ventured into their area.
“You’ve got the fields over there and we’re taking away their lands – so I guess it would be normal,” a Kirkland resident told Global News. “But this is the first I’ve heard of it and we’ve been here for 20 years.”
For Kirkland residents who are living in an area with frequent coyote sightings, the Montreal SPCA warns to stay calm.

Usually, the SPCA said, coyotes avoid people altogether.
But if you’re a pet owner, they say to keep your cat or small dog indoors, especially at night.
“I would hope that the municipal governments will be taking action to address this problem because we want to feel safe in the community and we want our family members including our pets to feel safe as well,” said Amber Grant, whose parents live in Kirkland.
On Friday, a spokesperson for the Quebec ministry of forests, wildlife and parks, told Global News, a permit to safely capture wild animals was recently delivered to the town.
They also said, if authorities find the coyote, they’ll bring it to a different location where it will then be released into the wild.
