The Regina Qu’Appelle Health (RQHR) is facing criticism online after a prejudiced job ad appeared on June 30.

The original posting was for an administrative assistant.

After describing the role, the job description said:

“As the Native person does not understand our rules, regulations, policies, procedures or internal structure they should not be expected to live around or according to them.”

On Tuesday, the health region said in a Facebook statement that it had been made aware of the post that had gone up before the long weekend.

The statement said the ad contained language that was offensive in nature toward Indigenous people and was posted in error. The ad has since been removed from the RQHR website and the health region said it is working to take it off of external websites as well.

“The RQHR is extremely sorry that an error of this nature was made. It in no way represents our position with respect to inclusion and diversity in our organization. The ad originated from an obsolete job description which has since been pulled from circulation, so this mistake will not occur again.”

The statement adds that once an investigation into the error is finished, corrective action will be taken.
