Canada-wide initiative launched to combat Islamophobia

The National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM) is taking steps to combat Islamophobia.

At a press conference Monday, the group said police-reported hate crimes and incidents against Muslims have continued to increase, something Statistics Canada confirms.

The NCCM Stronger Together teams launched an initiative to remind Canadians that hate crimes of any kind toward any group are unacceptable.

They announced a new framework, the Charter for Inclusive Communities, to reinforce the values within the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

The NCCM Stronger Together teams in Windsor, London, and Toronto in Ontario, as well as Montreal, Vancouver and Calgary participated in the announcement Monday.
