The Independent Investigation Office is investigating a shooting in Summerland.
They say it happened early Saturday morning, after a Summerland RCMP officer attempted to pull over a vehicle at Rosedale and Prairie Valley Roads.
Police report that the vehicle headed into a dead-end street at Giant’s Head Mountain Parkway, where there was an interaction between police and the vehicle.
The RCMP opened fire, but the vehicle left the area and the police officer was not hurt.
Several hours later, a man showed up at the local hospital suffering from a gunshot wound. It’s believed the man – who is in stable condition – was connected to the earlier incident.
The vehicle believed to be involved in the incident was located by police in Summerland around 7 a.m. and is being examined by investigators.
The IIO is travelling to Summerland, and will interviewing officers and witnesses.
