The City of Fredericton’s “Imagination Station” is now open for business — or rather feedback, at the corner of York and Queen Streets.

Through the city’s Ignite Fredericton community-wide conversation, Frederictonians now have a chance to share their thoughts and ideas about the future of the city.

Fredericton city planner Sebastian Salazar says the repurposed shipping container will serve as an information and community hub, and a place where people can come to shape the future of Fredericton.

Salazar says he wants people to imagine what they want Frederiction to be in the next 30 to 35 years.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“The Imagination Station is open to everybody, and they can come and submit their input via an online survey which we have on iPads or on a laptop,” Salazar said.

“It’s very, very easy to use [the] app that our consultants have prepared and they can also leave us their comments on stickies, on boards, there’s a dotmography panel — which people can use to put dots on the places that they like, or places that they feel need improvement.”

Salazar says the station is a welcoming environment where people can voice their opinions, discuss city plans and participate in activities.

The station will be open during major city events, as well as on Saturday during the market. Salazar says the entire municipal plan review process will take a year, but tells Global News the city hopes to have a new plan ready before summer 2017.

Local artist Craig Bodovich will be on-site painting the container.  Summer interns will staff the station and help visitors provide feedback.
