Halifax Regional Police confirm a man has died after being found unresponsive in his cell at police headquarters on Gottingen Street.
Just after 2 a.m., police say a staff member was conducting routine checks when they discovered a man unresponsive in his cell. He was pronounced dead by EHS.
Police have not released the man’s name but say he had been arrested in Halifax for public intoxication around 10:30 on Wednesday evening.
The province’s Serious Incident Response Team is investigating the death.
More information is expected to be released once an autopsy is complete.
