Hundreds of people, including many members from the LGBTQ community, gathered outside the Vancouver Art Gallery Sunday night to remember the victims of the senseless massacre in Orlando.
Many held candles and expressed their shock and sadness at what happened.
“It’s all about solidarity,” said one person at the vigil. “We’re just here to show our support.”
Members of the local Muslim community are also expressing outrage at the senseless act of violence.
“My condolences on behalf of my group and the community at large to the victims, to their families,” said Ahmed A. Yousef, the Islamic Society of Ridge Meadows president.
“We can only hope and pray for patience and perseverance for the entire world and community, as this seems to be a global plague that we suffer from all throughout. We must stand strong and support one another in times like this.”
Several Vancouver landmarks were lit up to show support for the people of Orlando as well.
The sails at Canada Place were bathed in the colours of the pride flag.
