Suspect could be charged in death of baby delivered after mom fatally shot in Toronto

TORONTO — Police are consulting with the Crown to determine whether a suspect could be charged in the death of a baby who was delivered prematurely last month after his mother was fatally shot in Toronto.

Toronto police issued a brief statement saying the infant son of Candice Rochelle Bobb died Sunday night in hospital.

Const. Dave Hopkinson says that police are in the process of speaking with Crown officials to determine whether charges in the baby’s death would be feasible.

But he says that since no arrest has been made, the announcement of whether a suspect could face charges in the infant’s death “may not happen today.”

Bobb, 35, was pregnant when she was shot in Toronto’s northwest end while returning home from watching a basketball game on May 15.

Her baby boy was delivered prematurely by emergency C-section at 24 weeks.
