Raptors’ Kyle Lowry writes emotional thank you letter to fans

Toronto Raptor Kyle Lowry thanked the team’s fan base Thursday, calling them the “the best in the league, by far.”

Lowry posted an open letter on Twitter saying it “still hasn’t sunk in that it’s over” after leading the team through a thrilling playoff run that saw them within two games of reaching the NBA Finals.

“From Vancouver – to London – to every city where we proudly wore our jersey, I saw our fans,” Lowry wrote. “I always knew we were Canada’s team, but damn … y’all came out with the love and support we needed.”

The 30-year-old point guard drove Toronto to a franchise record 56-win regular season, averaging 21.2 points per game and 6.4 assists per game, while starting the 2016 All-Star Game in Toronto and being awarded All-NBA Third Team honours.

Soon-to-be free agent teammate DeMar DeRozan also took to social media Thursday, leading some to draw conclusions on his future with the team. DeRozan posted a portrait of himself captured “To be continued..”, the image included various phrases written over his face, including the popular team chant “We the North”.
