A female Waterloo, Ont. police officer was seen on video tackling an “unstable” man allegedly wielding an axe in front of people at a bus stop near the Fairview Park Mall.

Facebook user Lynn BoNita posted the video on social media, after saying she witnessed the incident unfold at the bus stop at about 4:45 p.m. Tuesday.

“An ‘unstable’ man with an axe uttering threats at pedestrians gets taken down by a female officer,” BoNita wrote in a Facebook post with video of the arrest. “She did her job so well.”

BoNita said the man was standing “right next” to her with an axe while she was waiting for the bus with a friend, before she pulled out her cellphone and captured the incident on video.

The unidentified officer can be seen knocking the axe from the man’s hand before struggling to take him to the ground in an arrest attempt.

Passersby then quickly come to her aid and subdue the man, while one person is seen kicking him while he struggles on the ground before being handcuffed and taken into police custody.

“Woo-hoo, she did a great job, awesome take down by someone a little smaller,” said one commenter on Facebook.

“Glad people came to help, it’s sad that most people will just stand there and watch someone get taken, beat or robbed.”

BoNita’s video has been viewed close to 350,000 times since Tuesday night, with more than 1,500 shares on Facebook alone.
