Cyclist seriously injured in crash with City of Saskatoon truck

UPDATE: Cyclist gets warning after collision with City of Saskatoon street-patching truck

Police are investigating after a cyclist was seriously injured in a crash involving a City of Saskatoon street-patching truck. Emergency services were called to the corner of Idylwyld Drive and 29th Street West at around 8:30 a.m. CT on Wednesday.

Police say the road patching truck had been travelling southbound on Idylwyld when it made a right-hand turn onto 29th Street, striking a 20-year-old man on a bicycle.

As a result of the collision, the cyclist was taken to hospital by MD Ambulance where he is being treated for what are reported to be serious but non-life threatening injuries.

“The city extends its compassion for this man,” said Jeff Jorgenson, general manager of transportation and utilities.

The city said it follows its protocols after a critical incident to ensure the proper operating procedures were maintained.

Traffic restrictions on Idylwyld Drive and 29th Street have been lifted.

Members of the police collision analyst unit have cleared the crash scene and the investigation is ongoing.
