Famous Nova Scotia brewery Alexander Keith’s is hoping to tap into the craft beer market, welcoming a new brewmaster and launching a new brew this month.

Stefan Gagliardi has been brought on board to create a new beer selection that “celebrate the people, history and heritage of Nova Scotia.”

“I’m excited to tap into the Alexander Keith’s spirit of innovation and create new, great tasting brews that are as unique as the people who live and work in Nova Scotia,” Gagliardi said in a release.

The first of the two “small-batch” brews currently in the works will be launched at an event at the brewery on June 16.

It’s called Cornerstone Edinburgh Pale Ale, named after the cornerstone laid in the construction of the original Keith’s brewery.

“It’s an English style pale ale with a Scottish twist,” Gagliardi said.

According to Keith’s, the beer has a “sweeter malt profile” and citrus aromas that are complemented by a late addition of English hops.

The second beer on the way is the Lunenberg Coffee and Cacao Stout, which Gagliardi describes as “a nice, dark, rich beer and it’s going to have a lot of coffee aromas and a nice sweet smooth chocolate finish.”

Along with the new beers, the historic brewery has also been refurbished for small-batch brewing — and with that comes a new tour experience and new events for beer lovers to attend.

Alexander Keith’s says more new craft brews will be introduced throughout the year.

“We’re really excited to add some more brews to that family,” Gagliardo said.
