Neighbours warn Richmond couple of trailer fire in backyard

Crews extinguished a trailer fire in Richmond early Sunday morning.

A Richmond couple is safe and sound thanks to firefighters and some quick-thinking neighbours.

Fire crews received reports of flames coming from a camping trailer in the backyard of a home on Francis Road around 1 a.m.

Richmond Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief Gord Graebel said neighbours warned the couple of the fire on their property.

“They weren’t even aware there was a fire going on in the backyard,” he said. “There were people ringing their doorbells saying that. They were quite surprised to see all that activity come to their front door at one o’clock in the morning.”

Crews extinguished the blaze before it spread to the rest of the property. The cause of the fire is unknown but firefighters say it doesn’t appear to be suspicious.

There were no injuries.
