Cross-border shoppers expecting to find big deals at Bellis Fair Mall got less than they bargained for this long weekend.

In an effort to bring B.C. shoppers back to Bellingham, the mall marketed at par deals to Canadians.

The event got a lot of attention leading up to the weekend, as Canadians were encouraged to come to the mall and enjoy huge savings.

But, many shoppers left Bellis Fair unhappy and took to social media to vent, saying very few merchants even took part.

More at par events are planned for this summer but after this weekend some shoppers might be spending their money at home.

“I would say it was somewhat misleading from a consumer perspective,” said Daniel Fontaine, a disappointed shopper. “Very few were participating. There were only about 15 per cent that were participating.”

In responses to people on Twitter, the mall’s account says they “thought the event was explained very clearly.”
